ReThread’s hands-on apprenticeship programs pair emerging creators with master artisans to teach essential craft skills and build long-term careers in film, theater, and the performing arts. Through this 6-week paid program, apprentices build direct connections with established makers, paving a clear pathway toward sustainable employment.

The ReThread Project is filling a void in training; many programs lack hands-on experience to help new workers thrive and experienced workers take on new roles in our industry.
The ReThread Project is building a new pipeline of workers for New York's garment and costume trades, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a field that has always depended on knowledge passed from one maker to the next. Working beside master artisans in costume shops and on live productions, apprentices gain the kind of experience that turns interest into a lasting career.
Our Impact to Date
The apprenticeship program has growing interest and success.
To date, ReThread has hosted four six-week junior apprentice programs, each tailored to the participants’ unique skills and learning goals.

Meet Nyta
One of The ReThread Project's first junior apprentices has achieved success.
Nyta, has been working full-time for almost two years at one of our partner costume shops. Some of her highlights have included contributing to productions like Hamilton and Wicked, as well as her personal favorite, Chappell Roan.
